The effects of pornography are well documented.

Researchers from both secular and religious organizations have repeatedly come up with similar results: pornography is addictive, it is harmful to both the consumer and to the people involved in production. Adult pornography almost universally features people who were victims of child sexual abuse. Adult pornography also is closely linked with child pornography. Indeed most adult porn websites feature ads intimating that child porn is available on their sites. They advertise "teens" and "lolitas" and infinite other combinations suggesting children in pornographic settings.

The Supreme Court has ruled that adult pornography is lawful. That, however, does not make it moral or ethical. Association with adult pornographers means associating with immoral and unethical persons.

Acceptance of money from such people is "blood money". It is tainted and unclean. For a "child advocacy" group to accept such money is simply incredulous. However, that is exactly what the group "Safeguarding Our Children-United Mothers" (SOC-UM) has done. They not only accepted a reported $80,000 from pornographers, the donation was given to the founder of this organization when she appeared at the annual pornographers convention in New Orleans in September 2000. At that time she was quoted as saying that there is no relationship or link between adult pornography and child pornography. This is not simply naivete on her part. She is well educated and has been involved in advocacy issues for several years. No, this was simply dangerous, irresponsible talk.

Scripture speaks plainly about association with the forces of evil. Ephesians 5:11,12 says, "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret."

We challenge SOC-UM to live up to the standards that children would have of this group. We challenge SOC-UM to do the moral, ethical thing.......... RETURN THE MONEY RECEIVED AND RENOUNCE ANY SUPPORT OF THE ADULT PORNOGRAPHERS. Doing this is the only way to regain the respectability you once had.
